Go see The Importance of Being Earnest

I was lucky enough to get to see a fantastic opening performance of Rough Magic‘s latest production The Importance of Being Earnest last week and had a brilliant night.

My first time seeing the play it was fabulously sharp and witty (thank you Mr.Wilde) and delivered brilliantly by the Rough Magic players this time around with special guest, Stockard Channing in the role of Lady Bracknell.

The costumes are to die for and the set change is one of the more interesting ones I have seen since Whore Works at The Project Arts Centre a few weeks ago.

It’s a really enjoyable evening out, particularly for someone who wouldn’t normally think of going to the theatre. So bring your dad, your granny or your all of them out for an evening this week before the run ends at The Gaeity this coming Saturday June 19th. Fun and laughter guaranteed from start to finish!

Unboxed: be.ez ‘Le Bag’ backpack for MacBook Pro 15″

Also unboxed by big Clare accent too, apologies.

A few people were asking on and offline about what I eventually bought for my MBP and it was a bit of a gamble given there wasn’t great imagery or video of this specific model out there and it’s not in the be.ez resellers in Ireland, it seems.

The full range of backpacks, shoulder bags, sleeves and skins for all things Mac can be seen here, most are available via Amazon UK. First impressions are really good – it’s slim, light yet strong and comfortable to carry. I’ll be taking it to Clare and to London this week so I’ll report back after that.

Review: THEATREclub stole your CLOCK RADIO what the FUCK you gonna do about it?

Before I begin to try and put words around what I saw last night at The Project Arts Centre, I have to hold my hands up and warn you that I am not a writer, or a critic (of the official sense) or anything like that. I’m just a girl who likes theatre and likes to tell others about the things she likes in the hope that someone else out there might enjoy these things too.

None of you will have seen anything like this before in your lives even if you have already seen this before…

That’s me paraphrasing Shane Byrne’s introduction. He was right. He warned that we, the audience, would never be the same again. He was right.

It’s chaotic, funny, energetic, engaging and frighteningly good at putting a finger right on the pulse of twenty-somethings in Ireland today and amplifying it. Or, not to sound arrogant, maybe it was just my pulse? At some stage during the performance – maybe between the Stone Roses and ripping apart of phonebooks – I remember staring directly at the stage and thinking “fuck, that’s exactly it”.

Like I said at the beginning of this post, I’m not a writer, I just like theatre and stuff and sharing experiences. I reckon if any production can make you feel like you’re the only person in the audience in a huge black room and thinking “fuck, that’s exactly it”, it’s a sign of a good show.

Go and see it. Dylan Haskins is chairing a discussion after Thursday night’s production and there’s a promise of bonus deleted scenes for those who go on Friday.

Nice work THEATREclub – you’ve successfully blown my mind once again. Tickets. Info. Stalking. More stalking.

WordCamp Ireland = awesome

To WordCamp and beyond!

I think this photo pretty much sums up the first WordCamp Ireland for me. It was fantastic in so many ways – the speakers, the attendees, the venue, the whole vibe of the weekend. If you don’t believe me, check the Twitter stream.

I’ll try and organise my highlights into something comprehensive and useful later on but for now, major kudos and a huge thanks to the organisers Sabrina Dent and Katherine Nolan. You ladies rock.

The Emergency – going forward, onwards and upwards

I had the great pleasure of witnessing The Emergency crew do their thing live in the Laughter Lounge this week and I’m only flippin delighted that their CD ‘Use Democracy Sensibly‘ will be in all good record stores from November 20th. I was in stitches during the Give Up Yer Ould Lies sketch which has to be seen/heard.

The offering will feature sketches from their award-winning first season originally broadcast on Newstalk as well as some extra new material and some festive treats.

Comhghairdeas to all involved and continued success for 2010!
